¡¡Feliz cumple Alicia!!

Today is a special day. It's the birthday of one awesome lady... Alicia. She fondly (I think?? haha) refers to me as puerca, and I always kindly yell puerca back at her.

She is a beautiful, strong woman, and bears her burdens well. She has a fantastic smile. And a sly side.

And, like I said, she is awesome.

She also loves butterflies. Dare I say it's almost an obsession?? Haha.

And since she loves butterflies, and since it's her birthday, and since I've painted a few butterflies of my own, this post is written just for her ;) I know she LOVES cheesy stuff, so she'll love this... haha.

¡¡Feliz cumple puerca!! Qué sigas creciendo y mejorando siempre, siempre el Señor te tiene algo hermoso esperando, aunque sea que a veces tenes que padecer la oscuridad e incomodidad de un capullo. ¡Te quiero! Eres una mariposa hermosa.

CHILE 2015 Rohayhu che albirroja!!

Bueno, amigos, parece ser que tengo una obsesión. Gracias por aguantar todos mis posts en Facebook y Twitter en esta temporada tan emocionante... Copa América 2015. He disfrutado demasiado poder ver jugar la Albirroja, ha sido increíble verles luchar y recuperar su intensidad, sentir de la unidad maravillosa que tienen. Después del partido contra Argentina me puse feliz toda la semana, jaja, y por supuesto cuando llegó el tiempo de pintar y dibujar, sólo pude pensar en una cosa... ¡el FUT y mi querida selección! 

Decidí dibujar rapidamente el gol de Luis Barrios en el partido Arg-Par. Claro que fue super emocionante ese gol, enseñó al mundo que sí, los paraguayos son guerreros, increíbles. Significó mucho ese gol para todos, los argentinos y los paraguayos igual, y a todo suramérica, que no nos van a echar de la competencia, que no nos damos por vencido tan jamás, que el mejor está por venir.

Quizas no sea paraguaya, pero amo a la selección y a Paraguay, a mis queridos amigos paraguayos. En buenas o malas ¡siempre les apoyaré! Soy su fan número uno, jaja. Varias personas me han preguntado, ''Y, ¿por qué apoyas a Paraguay y no Argentina? ¿Cual tiene el mejor jugador del mundo?'' y yo les respondo siempre que es mejor tener un equipo unido, fuerte, con ganas de ganar, con un legado e historia tan increíble, que tener el mejor jugador del mundo - aún cuando sea Messi. Yo creo mucho en la Albirroja, en Paraguay, sé que saldrémos victoriosos porque mba'e guasu guarani. ¡Jaha Paraguay! ¡Fuerza albirroja! Que el Señor les bendiga a ustedes y que sigan mostrando el poder de un equipo unido y el orgullo que es ser paraguayo.

Well... it appears that I may be a little obsessed. Thanks, everyone, for dealing with my news feed this Copa América season, haha. I have enjoyed a bit too much being able to watch the Albirroja play, to see them recover their intensity and feel of their unity. After the game against Argentina, I was super happy the rest of the week, haha, and of course, when it came time to draw or paint, all I could think of was my beloved Selección Paraguaya.

I decided to quickly draw the goal by Luis Barrios in the game against Argentinga. Of course, this goal was super exciting; it showed the world that, yes, the Paraguayans are fighters, are incredible. It meant a lot for everyone, for the Argentinians, for the Paraguayans, for all of South America... that they won't toss us out of the competition, that we don't ever give up, that the best is yet to come.

I may not be Paraguayan, but I love the selección, and I love Paraguay and my dear Paraguayan friends. In good or bad times, I will always support them!! Various people have asked me, ''Why Paraguay?? Why not Argentina?? WHo has the best player in the world?'' And I respond that it is always better to have a united, strong team that desires to win, that has an incredible history and legacy, than to have the best player in the world - even if it is Messi. I believe in the Albirroja, in Paraguay, I know that we will come out of it all victorious, because mba'e guasu guarani, the Guaranies are great, grand. Jaha Paraguay! Fuerza albirroja! May God bless you and may you continue showing the power that comes from a team that is united and the pride it is to be Paraguayan.

Another Step-by-step!

So, I painted these last couple of days a landscape for my parents' bathroom. And, I happened to take some in-progress photos. Personally, if I were to do it again, I'd shorten the area between the bottom rocks and the purple rocks, or maybe just crop the rocks off of the bottom (I feel like they sort of look blobbish, haha). Let me know if you have any suggestions!

En estos días, he estado pintando un paisaje para el baño de mis padres. Por casualidad tomé unas fotos mientras pintaba. Aquí están. Me gusta mucho como salieron las de arriba. Personalmente, si yo fuera hacerlo de nuevo, eliminaría el espacio entre las rocas en el fondo y las rocas moradas, o quizás cortaría del cuadro estas rocas al fondo porque no me gusta como salieron. Pero, bueno... así es, jaja. Que disfruten el proceso. ¡Déjenme saber si me tienen sugerencias!

The Wonder of Your Own Backyard

I live in a house with four children, and it's a really good thing because between my painting and studying, I would probably never get outside. Last week they were in the dining room with a big white bowl full of flowers they'd found out back, and suddenly I realized how long it had been since I'd photographed flowers. I took a trip outside to take some more, and before I knew it was pretty distracted by anything and everything. Here are just a few of the photos I was able to take. Nature really is so beautiful and complex. It's incredible the way it makes you feel and can so quickly bring you back into the moment and help you appreciate what is all around you. Vivo en una casa con cuatro niños, y eso es bueno porque entre todos mis estudios y pintura, es posible que jamás saldría de la casa, jaja. La semana pasada eso niños estaban en el comedor con un gran tazón llena de flores que habían cosechado del jardín. Al ver las flores recordé que había pasado ya mucho tiempo desde que tomé fotos de flores. Salí afuera y sin darme cuenta estuve distraída por todito. Aquí tengo unas de las fotos que tomé. La naturaleza realmente es tan hermoso y complejo. Es increíble la manera en que uno se siente en la naturaleza y como nos lleva de nuevo al momento presente y nos ayuda apreciar lo que tenemos alrededor.

PROCESSES

My favorite thing about painting is the process. Same with cooking. And reading, and learning new things. The process is the beautiful part. Of course, it's always great to eat, to be finished, to share your knowledge, or have a finished work. But, for me, the beauty and value of the completed masterpiece is the direct result of the process it took to get there. 

I don't usually post in-process photos because I forget to take pictures, haha. But, here's the rare time I remembered. Enjoy!

La cosa que me encanta en cuanto a crear mi arte es el PROCESO. Así es también con el cocinar. Y el leer, y el aprender nuevas cosas. La parte más hermosa de todo es el proceso. Por supuesto, me gusta comer lo que he cocinado, me gusta ver que he pintado, me gusta haber terminado el libro... pero yo creo que la hermosura de la obra maestra o el logro cumplido viene del proceso y el trabajo que nos tomó para lograrlo.

No suelo poner aquí fotos del proceso de mi arte, porque la verdad se me olvido siempre tomar las fotos. Pero en ésta ocasión especial me acordó tomarlas, y aquí están. ¡Que les gusten!

Transformation

Well, it looks like I got on a little butterfly tangent... haha. 

This week I did a couple of quick ones, both fairly small. Tried out stipple, but I think I want to do it bigger next time and have more space to ''blend'' and stuff. 

Anyway, butterflies just fascinate me because they change so much in their lifetime, and their symbolism is beautiful. There is a wonderful song by Tyler Castleton and Lowell Alexander called ''You Can Change'', and I think of it whenever I see a butterfly:

There are days you stumble and you fall 

And sometimes through it all 

You think you'll never stand again 

There are times when choices weigh you down 

And bend you to the ground 

That's a place that we've all been … but

You can change, you can turn your heart around 

A brand new start can be found 

If you'll only take one step, 

You can change, wrap your mistakes in a cocoon,

Parece que estoy un poco distraida con mariposas, jaja. Esta semana pinté unas dos más, rápidamente. Las dos son mas o menos chiquitas. Intenté una en manera punteada pero la próxima voy a hacer más grande para que tenga más espacio para combinar los colores.

Las mariposas me fascinan porque cambian tanto durante sus vidas. Son símbolos hermosos de los cambios y la transformación. Hay una canción que viene a la mente cada vez que veo una mariposita. Se llama ''Puedes cambiar'' por Tyler Casteleton. Lo voy a traducir, no exactamente pero según mi interpretación de la canción:

A veces, tropieces y caes
y en ocasiones pienses que será imposible levantarte.

A veces tus decisiones pesan mucho
y te doblan hacía el suelo -

Es algo que todos hemos experimentado, pero

Puedes cambiar, puedes transformar tu corazón
Siempre hay nuevos comienzos

Si tienes el valor de tomar el primer paso para cambiar.
Puedes cambiar, envolver tus errores y pecados 

en un capullo, dejarlos morir, y salir una hermosa mariposa.

Ahora, es hora de extender tus alas

Colors/Colores

There's a Mexican folk song called ''De colores'' that talks about how during springtime, everything is dressed so colorfully. As you know, I love color. It's probably one of my favorite things about painting... mixing and combining colors. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm good at it, haha. But I love it. So, in honor of spring, I painted something SUPER colorful, haha.

Hay una canción mexicana (creo que todos ya la conocemos) que se llama 'De colores' y me encanta. Habla de que todo se viste de colores en la primavera. Como ya saben, me fascina el color. Probablemente el color es lo que me gusta más en cuanto al arte. Me encanta mezclar y combinar los colores. Ahora, no significa que siempre lo hago bien, jaja, pero de todos modos me gusta. Así que ya estamos en la primavera, pinté algo super brillante :)

And, my other recent adventure: ocean... hmm... not sure I love how this came out, but I think it's a good base to keep practicing and improving on color combinations and water. It's not quite as... colorful or bright, but I'm going to attempt it and see if I can get it there.

Y la otra obra que pinté recientamente es una obra del mar. Aunque no salió como quise, pienso que lo voy a practicar más. No es tan brillante como quisiera, pero voy a intentar de nuevo. Les dejo saber como sale ;)

THEN and NOW

I thought it would be interesting to look back at my paintings and really see if I've progressed at all.

After all, that IS the point of the blog... to see the progress.

Here were a few fun examples I found of improved skills. Hopefully in a couple of years I can write another post and we'll see even more progress :)

And, I've got to say, in the spirit of the day of Thanksgiving (well, and the spirit of how I should always feel), that I feel so much gratitude in my heart and feel so blessed for all that God has given me. Without Him none of thise would have been possible.

I thank Thee, Father, for my mother, who made me feel confident enough to try and keep going.
I thank Thee for Mr. Jeff Bushman, who made it possible for me to explore so many new things in art and always complimented my work while constructively criticizing.

Y ahora, en el espíritu del dia (bueno... y el espiritu con la que siempre debo de vivir), les digo que siento tanta gratitud en mi corazón y me siento TAN bendecida por todo que Dios me ha dado. Sin Él haberme ayudado, no habria podido hacer lo que hago hoy en día.

Y mi ruego es que puedo utilizar todo que me has dado para poder ayudar a los que están necesitando en maneras físicas, espirituales y emocionales.

The Star is becoming a Christmas postcard!!

Today I have some wonderful news for you all today!

Several weeks ago, I was innocently checking my email when I opened an email from the United Methodist Higher Education Fund.  

And who couldn't believe her eyes when she read that email?? Me!!

The UMHEF wished to purchase a digital copy of ''The Star'' to use on their annual Christmas postcard. And it has been officially purchased :)

This is quite the honor for me, and I have to publicly thank my Heavenly Father for the wonderful talents and opportunities that He has seen fit to bless me with. 

This opportunity is both a prayer answered and such a blessing. 

May God bless those of all faiths this season in the rememberance of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to whom we owe all.

Hoy tengo unas noticias bien buenas :)

Hace unas semanas, estaba chequeando el correo y abri uno del United Methodist Higher Education Fund. 

Y quien era que no pudo creer lo que leyó?? Esta muchacha!! Yo!!

Ellos me pidieron comprar una copia de mi obra ''La estrella'' para imprimir en sus postales navideños este año. Y ya la transacción esta hecha.

Este es un honor grande para mi, y tengo que tomar un momento para agradecer en publico mi Padre Celestial por haberme dado los talentos y bendiciones que tengo.

Esta oportunidad es una bendición y una respuesta a mis oraciones.

Que Dios les bendiga a todos de cualquier religión en esta temporada del ano en que recordamos todos el nacimiento del Señor y Salvador, Jesucristo.

A bit MORE of the randomness!

So, just a few more things that happened this week... many... different things came out in my painting. I'm not quite sure why I felt to paint any of them, but here they are in their blazing (and a bit strange) glory:

This is a bookmark I made. The background is an interpretation of ñanduti lace which come from Paraguay. The words are in Guarani (or Avañe'e) and are part of a poem by M. E. Aquino that reads: ''I hope that you taste the sun's flames, that you drink the moon's smile, and that you gather the love of God.''

Este es una marcapaginas que hice. En el fondo es mi interpretacion del cordon ''ñanduti'' de Paraguay. Las palabras son de una poesia Guarani por M. E. Aquino. Se lee asi: ''Ojala que lama las llamas del sol. Que beba la sonrisa de la luna. Que recogas el amor de Dios.''
